Respect to whoever put this together. I really do have to agree with him on these, and I would say that the order is about right. I would have switched #3 with #2, but that’s just me.
I think it’s a fitting tribute to one of the finest Englishmen to ever strap on a pair of boots. Regular readers know that I’m an avid Rooney-booster who will argue with anybody over the excellence of the man they call Roo.
You’ll notice that most of his showpiece goals are incredible volleys, and while that’s true, I think it’s easy to overlook one of the key parts of Rooney’s overall skill-set: his off-the-ball running. Rooney is adept at getting into the right positions at the right time, look at his performance against Villa last Saturday and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
The other, more obvious point, is his battering ram-like ability barge through groups of defenders while maintaining control of the ball. Balance, strength, and exceptional ball control skills are all necessary for this and when he’s on form, I would say he’s one of the best players going in terms of running at defenses.
Rooney and Ronaldo will form the main axis for United for many years to come. And their differences compliment each other so much, that the two simply know the others game inside and out. Pretty good for two guys who were supposed to hate each other two years ago after one lousy international performance…
Long live King Rooney. I’m extremely confident to quote old man Sinatra when I say “the best is yet to come.”
