Manchester United’s New Striker- Huntelaar, Anelka, Tevez, Torres or Saviola?

Rumors are abounding as to who Man U are bringing in as their 4th big acquisition of the year. While all of the players in the headline have their own strengths and weaknesses (some more than others <cough> Anelka), it looks as though money won’t be an object with the Glaziers looking to solidify Man U’s challenge not just for the Prem next year, but the Champions League, League Cup, FA Cup- the whole lot. Community Shield even.

With 3 top signings already and the 4th looking inevitable (THANK GOD IT WON’T BE PIEMASTER VIDUKA) the only questions remains who’s it gonna be?

NICOLAS ANELKA

Anelka is a proven Premiership goalscorer with strength, finishing ability and good skills off the ball. My big hang-ups are his primma-donna-ishness and the fact that he will unsettle the team. Also, Man City players aren’t good enough to play for Man U. Fact.

Huntelaar

Huntelaar looks to be a big numbers striker in the Van Nistelrooy model but who manages to offer a bit more in the creativity department. He’s scored a hatfull for every team he plays for and has already established himself as an international despite his relatively young age. His overall cost wouldn’t be too prohibitive and I could see him moving in the 8-10 million pound range, making him our cheapest acquisition of the summer. Skip the first minute of the video as it’s just a melodramatic intro.

Tevez

Carlos Tevez single-handedly kept West Ham in the Premier League this year- a seemingly impossible task with ten games remaining. He is the latest hat to be thrown into the ring, but with the Glaziers already ponying up big bucks, Tevez (proven premiership talent) could prove to be a real trump card especially with the service he would get from Ronaldo & Co. If the Glazier’s got the money I think Tevez will make the move. Here’s hoping. Sure is hideous though.

Torres

Fernando Torres is the least likely move of them all of you ask me. I think he is happy playing in Spain and his cost is simply too high for a player who hasn’t proven he can play in the Premiership. While he definitely has class and finishing ability, there hasn’t been much guarantee of Spanish League Strikers excelling in England. I think if the move will be in the 30 million pound range it will be Tevez in lieu of Torres. I can’t believe somebody linked football highlights with an Avril Lavigne video, I thought that was only something Sportsnet in Canada would do.

Saviola

Saviola isn’t really all that old but he’s been in the game so long he seems like he should be in his early 30s by now despite being like mid 20s. The young Argentine would have cost about 30 million a few years ago but is reportedly now available on a free. He is the low-cost option that would probably pan out. Small in size, but big in stature Saviola would probably have a tougher time against stronger, taller defences but would present problems to the smaller teams. That being said, Saviola would not guarantee success against the big teams and I personally feel as though Louis Saha offers a more physical option.
